Plenary summary: Progress report Turkey; UN Human Rights Council

The Strasbourg week is over, so it is time for a plenary update. Apart from passing the data protection package, which includes important privacy measures for LGBT people, and a resolution calling for measures against Nigeria and Uganda, Parliament adopted the progress report on Turkey and voted the EU priorities for the UN Human Rights Council.

New EU accession reports: LGBT rights in the Western Balkans and Turkey

The European Commission’s annual reports on accession countries were published yesterday, and include important and extensive information on the situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in those 8 countries. More so than previous years, the Commission reported extensively on problems of discrimination and violence against LGBTI people throughout all accession reports.

On Thursday 29 March the European Parliament adopted its annual enlargement progress reports for Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo. All resolutions require more progress in the field of LGBT rights.

New enlargement reports: Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina should do more for LGBT rights

The European Parliament adopted its annual progress reports on the accession of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Both countries are invited to do more for LGBT people’s human rights before they may join the EU.
